A Celebration of Norwalk's Heritage

The Oyster Festival is a Norwalk tradition. Beginning in 1978, the second weekend of September has gained the reputation of being The Oyster Festival weekend.  As a 501-C-(3) Nonprofit the Norwalk Seaport Association began the September tradition to increase awareness of Norwalk harbor and fundraise. The Seaport's founding mission started with revitalizing the community and preserving the history of South Norwalk. Today, the Oyster Festival is a main supporter of the Seaport's preservation efforts for Sheffield Island Light House which provides unique historical and environmental educational opportunities to Norwalk's youth and the general public. On a typical year 35,000 people will visit the Oyster Festival. With our 43rd year approaching, we look forward to another year celebrating the heritage and traditions of Norwalk's oyster industry.
