Between Worlds Gallery Show Saturday, June 15th 6:00-8:00PM Andrea Rios is exhibiting a body of work for The Southern New England Apprenticeship Program. This program paired a mentor with an apprentice for the distinct purpose of sharing the cultural and artistic practices from various living communities. Andrea worked closely with Matin Malikzada, a seventh generation potter that was forced to leave his home due to political unrest- a story similar to her own. Using modern tools, Andrea drew inspiration from traditional Afghan methods and her own roots to showcase a collection that bridges cultures, stories, and art forms. Thanks in part by Connecticut Museum of Cultural History, Connecticut Department of Economic Development and Community Development, CT Humanities, and National Endowment for the Arts. Ever-talented Village Center for the Arts instructor Andrea has been a godsend to the VCA studio this year. With an MFA in Illustration from WCSU and experience teaching a variety of ages, she’s already managed to change a multitude of lives in the short time she’s been here. Most often you will find her at the pottery wheel, but be sure to check out her other classes on the VCA website! Light refreshments and hors d'oeuvres will be served. Located at 5 Church Street, New Milford, Ct (860) 354-4318
