Norman Way was born on February 14, 1919, in Middlefield, Connecticut. Drafted into the Army in 1943, he did his basic training at Camp Edwards, Massachusetts, in April of 1943 and was then assigned to the 110th AAA (Anti-Aircraft Artillery Gun Battalion) of the First Army. On Christmas Eve, 1943 he left New York City, for Scotland. On June 7th Norm landed on Omaha Beach in Normandy, France. D-Day plus one. He went from Normandy, to Northern France and on August 25th 1944, was part of the force that liberated Paris. He continued on to the Rhineland and fought in what became known as the Battle of the Bulge. Norm was a Tech- 5 by the time he mustered out of the military.
Norm was past Commander of the American Legion Post 75, where he was administrator of the Soldiers, Sailors & Marines Fund for many years. He was a Charter Member and on the Board of Directors of The Greater Middletown Military Museum. He coached Little League and Ahern Whalen baseball.
On March 23, 2008, Norman R. Way, passed away. He was 89 years old.
